Out with the V8 for the 70's and in with a whole new design. That's right, the new Toyota LandCruiser Prado (otherwise known as the 250) is here, and it’s raising the bar for off-road adventures (allegedly) and on-road comfort (gotta keep the mum's happy). This latest model brings interesting updates, possibly making it a new choice for 4x4 enthusiasts looking for a change with capability and efficiency. The new Prado now boasts improved off-road features thanks to its advanced platform and V-Active technology. This means better handling, enhanced power, and a smoother ride whether you're tackling tough terrain or cruising the school pick-up line.
The Prado Altitude is the new flagship variant... Not sure we're sold on the Blue though. It’s designed for those who push their vehicles to the limit or push in line at the local primary school pick-up - that bus zone can be tough. Built on the same chassis as the 300 series, it comes with a stabiliser disconnect mechanism (SDM if you don't like big fancy words), this model offers 10% more wheel articulation, making rough trails easier to handle. Plus, it includes a rear locking differential for extra traction where it counts... You never know when those wheels are gonna spin, going for a lunchtime chardonnay with the girls.
Under the hood, the Prado’s 2.8-litre turbo-diesel engine is complemented by V-Active technology, which boosts fuel efficiency and reduces emissions. It's kinda like how day drinking boosts our personality and reduces our bad mood. This setup includes a 48-volt battery system that improves fuel economy and ensures smoother engine operation.
The Prado features an advanced Multi-Terrain Monitor (MTM, WTF is with the big words?!) with a new rear underfloor view, giving you a comprehensive look at your vehicle’s surroundings. With Crawl Control and Downhill Assist, navigating challenging terrain is a breeze. Gold Coast Barbie's are gonna froth.
The new LandCruiser Prado 250 Series will be available in Australia from the fourth quarter of the year - That's approx. October for those playing at home, with prices starting at:
GX: $72,500
GXL: $79,990
VX: $87,400
Altitude: $92,700
Kakadu: $99,990
Whilst we're hesitant, there is a curiosity much like searching the phrase "Blue Waffle" we can't escape when it comes to the new Prado. It's launch and success will really hinge on the accessories available including: GVM upgrades, Lifts, Bars & Siderails, Wheels and anything else that's gonna take it to being a new off-road contender. We can't wait to start working on these and see what they can really do.
