If you've been searching for a Ranger Raptor Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) upgrade and coming up empty — you're not imagining it. There are plenty of GVM upgrade options for the standard Next Gen Ranger, but for years the Raptor has been left out of that conversation entirely. Today that changed.

420kg of extra GVM on a Raptor that already had serious suspension underneath it — Lovells built this kit around what the Raptor was designed to do, not against it.

Lovells has officially released a 3550kg Fusion GVM Upgrade for the Ford Ranger Raptor 3.0L V6 Twin Turbo (Next Gen, 09/2022 on). It's federally approved and designed specifically to work with the Raptor's factory suspension - not replace it.

Why Is A Ranger Raptor GVM Upgrade So Hard To Find?

Most GVM upgrades work by replacing your factory shocks with units that can handle increased load. On the standard Ranger, that's straightforward. On the Raptor you have Fox Live Valve Technology dampers (electronically controlled shocks that adjust in real time based on driving conditions). They're the reason the Raptor rides the way it does, and swapping them out is not a simple or desirable proposition.

The Raptor GVM upgrade is a new release from Lovells — one of the only certified options on the market for owners who actually use the ute as intended.

That complexity is what kept a certified Ranger Raptor GVM upgrade off the market for so long. Engineering a compliant solution around the factory Fox system took time to get right. Lovells has done the work.

How The Ranger Raptor GVM Upgrade Works With Fox Suspension

Instead of replacing the Fox dampers, the Lovells Fusion upgrade retains them entirely. The kit achieves the increased weight rating through Lovells coil springs front and rear, designed, manufactured and tested in Australia. These work alongside Ford’s original FOX Shocks with Live Valve Technology dampers to deliver improved load management and stability. Lovells says the upgrade preserves the Raptor's signature ride quality and off-road capability.

Ranger Raptor GVM Upgrade: Factory Vs Upgraded Specs

Here's what the Lovells Fusion upgrade delivers for the Ford Ranger Raptor 3.0L V6 Twin Turbo compared to factory:

SPECIFICATION

FACTORY RATING

UPGRADED RATING

GVM (Gross Vehicle Mass)

3130kg

3550kg

GCM (Gross Combined Mass)

5370kg

5900kg

Front Axle Capacity

1520kg

1650kg

Rear Axle Capacity

1700kg

1900kg

This upgrade is federally approved (VTA-065903), meaning the new GVM rating is legally recognised across all states/territories and can be done pre-rego.

That's 420kg of extra payload. For a Raptor owner that probably means a decent bull bar, a load lid, and still enough left over to justify the jet ski on the back.

On the GCM side, the revision to 5900kg gives you more combined capacity when towing, though it's worth noting the Braked Towing Capacity stays at 2500kg — it doesn't jump to the 3500kg you'd get from a standard Ranger. Confirm GCM availability as a post-registration option with your installer, as it varies by state.

3550kg GVM and 5900kg GCM — that's an extra 530kg of combined capacity over stock when you factor in what you're towing.

One more number worth knowing: the upgrade pushes payload past the 1000kg mark, which has FBT implications for anyone running the Raptor as a business vehicle. Worth a conversation with your accountant if that applies to you.

The Bigger Picture: The Raptor Is No Longer Limited

The Ranger Raptor has always been one of the most capable utes out of the box, but it came with a clear trade-off. It was built for performance, not payload.

Lovells have been doing this long enough that their name on the tailgate means something — certified GVM and GCM upgrades, engineered in Australia for Australian conditions.

This Ranger Raptor GVM upgrade changes that equation. It doesn't turn it into a heavy-duty tourer, and it's not trying to. But it removes one of the biggest barriers that stopped people from using the Raptor the way they actually wanted to. For a ute that already does so much right, that matters.

Is This Upgrade Right For Your Raptor?

If you bought a Raptor to actually use it — bar work, a load lid, tools in the tub, regular towing — the factory GVM doesn't leave much room before you're pushing limits. This upgrade is the straightforward fix for that. It's also worth considering for anyone running the Raptor as a business vehicle, given the payload implications mentioned above.

From the front it's still a stock Raptor — underneath it's running a certified GVM upgrade that lifts the legal payload limit from 3130kg to 3550kg.
