Planning an INEOS Grenadier Build? Start With This Touring Setup
Prefer to watch instead of read? The video above walks through the whole build with the Grenadier sitting right in our Brisbane workshop.
This INEOS Grenadier touring build is proof that you don't need to bolt on every part in the catalogue to get a capable tourer. We went to Tasmania and one of the guys had a Grenadier along for the trip. Honestly, we were blown away by how capable they are. So when a customer brought one into our Brisbane workshop, we were keen to get stuck in. Here's what we did and why.
The Brief: Weekends Away with a Camper Trailer
Our customer Rob had a clear plan. The Grenadier would do short weekend trips on its own, and it would also tow his camper trailer on longer trips. His brief was simple. He wanted to pull up on the side of the road and make lunch. He also wanted to spend two days away from the camper trailer with the vehicle self-sufficient enough to look after him. Everything on this build came back to that brief.

INEOS Grenadier Light Bar: Baja Designs S8
The two lights in the grille are a factory spotlight, and they're not great. If you get stuck out driving at night, you want a lot more light than that. So we fitted a Baja Designs 20 inch S8 LED light bar. It looks small, but the technology Baja Designs puts into these lights is outstanding, and it throws a massive amount of light down the track. It outdoes the factory lights every day of the week. We also wired it into the same factory switch that runs the spotlights, so you get the output of a proper light bar with a factory finish.

Rear Drawers and Fridge for Touring
The rear is where this build really earns its keep. We used an RV Storage Solutions drawer system, which gives Rob somewhere to put drinks, somewhere to make lunch and somewhere to put all the gear afterwards. There's room for plates and cutlery, and the beef jerky, lolly bags and chocolate bars also fit fantastically. Best of all, you can hide them from the kids.

The drawer has a lockout, so if you're parked on a lean it won't slide back in when you don't want it to. You don't lose storage space either, with extra room down the sides of the drawers. The jack is still easy to get to, and you end up with a huge flat load space for bags, boxes of gear or the pram. At the front of the drawer is a 30 litre Dometic fridge slide, which keeps food and drinks cold. There are also USB A and USB C ports, power sockets and a high output socket for the compressor. A REDARC 2000 watt inverter covers the induction cooktop.
At the bottom is a 50 amp Anderson plug for charging the camper trailer. We also added a second red Anderson plug for an extra solar panel.
Grenadier Dual Battery and 12V Setup Under the Seat
The tricky part was getting the power system to fit without making a mess. The Grenadier comes with two batteries under the passenger seat, but it isn't a true dual battery setup. So we removed one of the vehicle's batteries and replaced it with a REDARC 150 amp hour lithium battery. Using some really smart bracketry, we also fitted a REDARC BCDC charging system, which keeps the second battery charged while you drive. All the fusing and the relays for the factory switch triggers went in under the seat as well.

The 2000 watt inverter was another challenge, so we custom made bracketry to mount it inside the RV Storage Solutions drawer system. The result is super neat and tidy, easy to get to, and everything sits in the factory location of the vehicle.
270 Degree Awning, Solar Panel and Roof Wiring
On the side is a Bushwakka Darkness Pro 270 degree awning. It gives you a massive amount of coverage, with plenty of shade over the food prep area and room to stick your swag up if you want. It keeps you out of the elements, and it packs away with a clean factory look.

Here's something no other manufacturer does. There's a little panel on the roof that pops up, and INEOS has already run factory wiring to the roof, with switches inside the vehicle. We changed how it works, so it now runs from the house battery instead of the start battery. A factory gland passes through the roof cavity, which means we didn't have to drill a hole in the roof to run cables. We used that same grommet to add more wiring for the 160 watt solar panel and a power outlet for a Starlink Mini that can go on the roof rack later. Flick the switch inside and the awning lights come on, so you can party all night long.
