Isuzu MU-X GVM Upgrade: Lovells Releases 3325kg Kit

If you own an Isuzu MU-X and you’ve started adding accessories or towing a hybrid caravan, you may have already noticed how quickly the factory payload disappears. Bull bar, roof rack, awning, passengers, luggage - it all adds up faster than most people expect.

Lovells has now released a 3325kg GVM upgrade designed specifically for the Isuzu MU-X (3.0L Diesel 2021-on). The upgrade increases the legal carrying capacity of the vehicle while maintaining everyday comfort and usability.
For many MU-X owners who tow, or travel with family, it’s a practical way to get more capability out of the vehicle without needing to step up to something larger. Like a Ford Everest or 300 Series Landcruiser.
WHAT IS THE LOVELLS MUX GVM UPGRADE?
The Lovells kit increases the Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) of the Isuzu MU-X from 2800kg to 3325kg.
Just as importantly, the upgrade also increases the Gross Combination Mass (GCM), which is the total allowable weight of the vehicle and trailer combined.
FACTORY RATINGS VS LOVELLS MU-X GVM UPGRADE
Specification | Factory MU-X | Lovells Upgrade |
Front Axle | 1450kg | 1575kg |
Rear Axle | 1650kg | 1750kg |
GVM | 2800kg | 3325kg |
Towing Capacity | 3500kg | 3500kg |
GCM | 5900kg | 6200kg |
These increases allow MU-X owners to carry more gear, maintain better vehicle control under load, and stay within legal weight limits when towing.

WHAT’S INCLUDED IN THE LOVELLS MUX GVM UPGRADE KIT?
The upgrade is built around Lovells’ heavy-duty suspension components designed to improve stability and load control.
The kit includes:
Heavy-duty Lovells front coil springs
Heavy-duty Lovells rear coil springs
Lovells Gas Legend twin-tube shock absorbers front and rear
The Gas Legend shocks are designed to provide improved comfort and stability when the vehicle is carrying extra weight.

WHO IS A MUX GVM UPGRADE FOR?
It doesn’t take long for a vehicle with a 2800kg factory GVM to run out of payload once passengers and accessories are added. But even modest 4x4 upgrades can push the vehicle close to its weight limits.
Common examples include:
Bull bar
Drawer systems
Roof racks or rooftop tents
Caravan or camper trailer towing
A MUX GVM upgrade helps restore that margin so the vehicle can carry its load safely and legally.

PRE-REGO VS POST-REGO MUX GVM UPGRADE
When it comes to a GVM upgrade for the Isuzu MU-X, whether it’s done pre-registration or post-registration usually depends on where you are in the vehicle ownership process.
IF YOU ALREADY OWN YOUR MU-X
If you already have an MU-X in the driveway, the vehicle is already registered - which means the upgrade would be completed post-registration.
Lucky for you this Lovells MUX GVM upgrade is available for Isuzu MU-X 3.0L 4WD models from July 2021 onwards (LS-M, LS-U, LS-T and X-Terrain).
In this scenario, the upgrade is installed and the vehicle is certified under the state rules and regulations where the vehicle is registered. Because of this the GCM revisions may not be available in all states post-registration.

IF YOU’RE BUYING A NEW MU-X
It’s important to note that the Lovells MUX GVM upgrade is only available for the 3.0L diesel MU-X (RJ5 series from July 2021 onwards). As of 2026, Isuzu also offers a 2.2-litre MU-X, but that model is not covered by this GVM upgrade. So if you’re planning to increase the GVM, you’ll need to choose the 3.0L diesel version when ordering the vehicle.
When the upgrade is done pre-registration, we can often liaise with the dealership and organise for the GVM upgrade to be fitted before you take delivery of the vehicle.
Whether the upgrade is done before registration or after, the end result is the same - the vehicle can legally operate at the increased 3325kg GVM. The main difference simply comes down to when the upgrade is installed during the ownership process.
