When Tim came to us at BAW Automotive, he had one goal in mind – to take his Toyota LandCruiser 79 Series from a capable workhorse to an absolute touring and off-road beast. He wanted comfort, performance, power, and durability, all while staying 100% street-legal. So, we got to work. And when we build a 79, we don’t do half measures.

Built to conquer—Tim’s Landcrusier 79 Series rocking a Superior Engineering coil conversion on 37s

This build is packed with top-tier components, carefully selected to work seamlessly together. From the Superior 5-inch Coil Conversion to a full BAW stereo and interior upgrade, every part was chosen to enhance performance, reliability, and usability—whether it’s smashing outback tracks or touring in comfort.

The Backbone of the Build – Superior 79 Series Coil Conversion

Suspension is everything when you’re building a serious 79 Series tourer. The factory leaf-spring setup just wasn’t going to cut it. Tim opted for the Superior Outback Tourer 5” 79 Series Coil Conversion, which not only gives the best ride quality but also increases wheel travel, handling, and articulation—all without compromising legality.

  • Superior 5-inch Coil Conversion – Massive improvement in ride quality, flex, and stability.

  • 4000kg GVM Upgrade – So it can legally handle all the extra weight.

  • Superior 2.5 ECDS Shocks – In-cab adjustability means he can fine-tune his ride on the go.

  • Hyperflex Radius Arms – For max articulation without losing stability.

Now, this isn’t just about looking tough—every component was chosen because it performs under serious off-road conditions. The track-corrected Chromoly Diamond Diff Housing ensures the rear track matches the front, eliminating that awkward 79 Series stance and improving handling dramatically.

Powering Up – Engine, Alternator & Exhaust Mods

A 79 Series LandCruiser is built tough, but once you throw on 37-inch tyres, a fully loaded canopy, and a ton of off-road gear, you need more power to turn those wheels. The Just Autos Tune unlocks more grunt, while a Rapid Power 250A alternator ensures the electrical system never runs out of juice.

  • Just Autos Tune – More power to handle bigger tyres and heavier loads.

  • Rapid Power Upgraded 250Amp Alternator – Keeps power flowing to all the accessories.

  • Brown Davis 185L Long-Range Fuel Tank – More fuel, more adventure.

  • Custom Twin-Tip Exhaust – Because a proper 79 should sound as good as it drives.

The kind of setup that makes 70 series fanboys weak at the knees.

With these upgrades, Tim can hit long-distance touring without stressing about range or battery life, while still packing serious power for off-road use.

Built for Touring – Canopy, Air & Electrical

Tim wanted a fully self-sufficient touring setup. That meant big power, reliable air, and a killer canopy fit-out. Twin ARB compressors mean he can air up 37s in no time, while the BAW lithium power setup keeps all the 12V systems running smoothly.

  • 310Ah Lithium Battery System – Endless power for fridges, lights & electronics.

  • 3000W Redarc Inverter – Runs all the high-draw appliances with ease.

  • Twin ARB Compressors + Air Tank – Fast, reliable air-up for big tyres.

  • RhinoRack Roof Rack + Bushwakka Awning – Shade, storage & practical overlanding features.

With a fully integrated power and air system, this 79 isn’t just tough—it’s practical. Everything is designed to work together, so Tim never has to worry about dead batteries, slow air-ups, or lack of storage.

Built Tough – Protection & Exterior Mods

A 79 built for adventure needs to be armored up for the worst. Tim’s build is protected from all angles, making it ready for rocky trails, deep water crossings, and tough bush tracks.

  • Phat Bars Rock Sliders – Protect the sills from getting smashed on tracks.

  • Clearview Next Gen Towing Mirrors – Better visibility, especially when towing.

  • Fatz Fabrications Snorkel – Dust, water, and airflow protection.

  • Carbon 15,000lb Synthetic Rope Winch – Heavy-duty recovery, ready to go.

The custom two-tone paint job ties the whole build together, giving it a stealthy, aggressive look that stands out while keeping that classic 79 Series attitude.

Interior Built for Comfort – Touring in Style

You don’t have to sacrifice comfort for capability. Tim wanted his 79 to feel like a luxury off-roader, so we decked it out with premium seats, sound, and tech upgrades.

  • Scheel-Mann Front Seats – Ergonomic, comfortable, and built for long hauls.

  • Full BAW Leather Interior – High-end feel with durable, easy-to-clean materials.

  • PVS 12.1-inch Head Unit – Massive screen, easy-to-use navigation, and media.

  • BAW Premium Stereo Upgrade – Because good sound makes every trip better.

  • CarBuilders Stage 4 Sound Deadening – A quieter, more refined ride.

This interior setup makes sure long-distance touring is actually enjoyable, with top-tier comfort, connectivity, and sound quality.
