Mud Terrain vs All Terrain Tyres

Theres really only two choices when deciding on which tyre to purchase for your 4x4 Mud or All Terrain. Now there are pros and cons to both.

Mud Terrain

PROS

  • Thicker side walls and more rubber (puncture resistance)
  • Larger tread blocks
  • Better suited to hard core 4wding
  • More aggressive aesthetic
  • Can increase lift/height of vehicle

CONS

  • Weigh more than an All terrain.
  • Poor traction on sealed roads when wet
  • Poor Fuel Economy
  • Noisier
  • Tyre life is less when used mostly on hard surfaces

All Terrain

  • Smaller tread blocks and narrower voids allowing for better traction in wet weather driving
  • More fuel efficient
  • Last longer than Mud Terrain

CONS

  • Not as much increase in lift/height
  • Good off road, not great in some terrains
