  • How do dual battery systems work?

    In a dual battery system, both batteries function as two isolated systems. While your vehicle’s engine is running, your starter battery works with your alternator to power your vehicle and its factory electronics.

    While your vehicle is turned off, your secondary battery powers all your aftermarket 4x4 accessories; meaning that you can use 12 volt power without having to keep your engine running. 

    This is achieved thanks to the function of an isolator that disconnects your starter battery from your secondary battery, meaning that you only draw power from one battery at a time.

  • What do you need for a dual battery system?

    With many variations and options for creating a high-quality 4x4 touring dual battery setup. The components will vary considerably but typically include a secondary deep cycle battery (AGM/ Calcium/Lithium) battery, battery tray, battery isolator, a dual battery monitor and battery charger. High quality Auto Electrical components make the system work cohesively. Additional items such as Solar panels and inverters can be added also.

  • What are some differences between Lithium and AGM Batteries?

    It is important to note that there are many types of “Lithium Ion” batteries. The point to note in this definition refers to a “family of batteries”. There are several different “Lithium Ion” batteries within this family which utilize different materials for their cathode and anode. As a result, they exhibit very different characteristics and therefore are suitable for different applications.

    Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) is a well-known lithium technology in Australia due to its wide use and suitability to a wide range of applications. Characteristics of low price, high safety and good specific energy, make this a strong option for many applications. LiFePO4 cell voltage of 3.2V/cell also makes it the lithium technology of choice for sealed lead acid replacement in a number of key applications.
